caroline gutman
Caroline is a self-taught photographer who came to photography through a slightly roundabout route. It was in graduate school, while studying international relations, that she got hooked.

She recently completed a U.S. Department of State Fulbright fellowship in Southwest China, during which she photographed contrasting aspects of China: Chinese-Russian culture on Inner Mongolia's windswept plains; the daily rhythms of a Chinese mega hospital, coffee growing in Xishuangbanna; China’s most prized peppercorn-producing region; budding “appreneurs” who sell gourmet food via smartphone apps; a devoted physical therapy team helping a boy with cerebral palsy gain strength. Through these and other photo shoots, she gained a better feel for the country.

Her photos have been published by Vice, British Airways, Business Insider, The Sunday Times (UK) and the Apple App Store. She holds a Master's in International Relations from the London School of Economics and a Bachelor's in Chinese Studies and Political Science from Washington University in St. Louis.
