I was born and raised in a small, rural town north of Detroit. After attending art school in Downtown Detroit and living in the city for several years, I started becoming used to and comfortable in emptiness, quiet and space. I loved the barren streets, spare facades and lack of people that the city offered. However my need to explore another place brought me to Brooklyn, where none of the landscapes that had grown to be a part of my everyday life existed in a city of 8.5 million. My photography, somewhat subconsciously, shifted from shooting fashion to shooting landscapes and studying my surroundings. I now seek out the emptiness, solitude and peaceful moments, however brief they are, with my camera in a city that if you look hard enough, has quiet everywhere.
